The Roman villa of Hypnos in Risan has 7 rooms for the family covered by mosaics and 3 small rooms ,
supposing for the servants. When Romans started to build villa – they built atrium , corridors around
an atrium and rooms spreding like sun’s rays. Ancient Atrium – The Latin word atrium referred to the
open central court. It was like small inside garden used for collecting rain water for the kitchen and bathrooms.
It had 2 parts :
• Impluvium was the shallow pool sunken into the floor to catch the rain drops deigned to carry away the rainwater coming through
• Compluvium of the roof. It was usually made of marble and placed about 30 cm below the floor of the atrium.
